This morning I wept..
This time last year I was playing with these children in India, and today I have learnt that the country will be entering into a four week lock down.
As I felt deeper into this news I remembered these two girls. This image was taken as I was leaving Rishikesh, the two girls painting each other's nails with a small bottle of old nail polish and so much joy in their hearts.
You see they had nothing, and everything at the same time. They lived in a poorly crafted tin shed with no water and one light. Their family survived off the nearby hotel which would now be empty. .
I hope with all of my heart that the goodness and joy in their hearts see them through this time. But the reality facing most Indians more than ever is poverty. 4 weeks of lockdown means no scavenging, no supplies, no way of getting food. So I cry. I cry as I feel into the desperation of what many of these families might feel. And as I cry I hold my loved ones closer.
Let us be grateful for what we have. Let us hold our loved ones close. Let us be resourceful in what we have and not take more than what we need, because there are others who need it too.
May we too find the kind of joy in our hearts that these little girls have.
.
May we be safe, healthy and in faith and hope.
.
May we be in love.
Love and warmth,
Bri & D
